Sarah Saunderson-Warner is an experienced criminal barrister specialising in serious crime. Sarah’s interest in criminal law commenced at the University of Otago where she completed her dissertation in sentencing. She commenced working for a prominent Queen’s Counsel during her studies and has remained practicing in criminal law ever since.
Sarah conducts a wide-range of criminal cases. She regularly appears in the District Court, High Court and Court of Appeal. In recent years, Sarah’s practice has been notable for conducting multiple homicide trials throughout the South Island.
Sarah is currently accepting Legal aid assignments for PAL 3 and 4 cases, where the maximum penalty is 10 years or more. However, Sarah also accepts private cases of all levels of seriousness.
Sarah is a highly experienced Parole lawyer, who has presented numerous seminars on this topic and appears regularly on the Parole Board.
Sarah is an active member of the Legal profession. She is a regular faculty member on the NZLS Litigation Skills programme. She is a member of the Legal Aid Provider Selection committee and Performance Review Committee. She has previously served on the Law Society Criminal Law Committee and Otago District Law Society Branch Council.
Outside of law, Sarah is a keen multi-sporter, having completed the Coast to Coast and NZ Ironman multiple times. Sarah has previously represented New Zealand in age group Triathlon and Cycling.
